80’s grunge revival and the quest for relevant denim

In grade school, all the destroyed denim I owned was a result of wear and tear.  In high school I upgraded.  Growing out of the suburbanite teenage wasteland that is Abercrombie and American Eagle, I fell in love with premium labels.  Namely Earnest Sewn, Yanuk, and Cheap Monday which I still sport today.

Lately, I’ve noticed kids on campus owning the ripped denim look.  I’m more of a fan of the DIY rips than the overworked designer look but with the 80’s comeback happening now, every premium denim label is carrying at least one torn jean. Now begins the prowl for that perfectly antiquated but youthful pair of denim.
